Abstract: »And same-sex desire takes center stage in Richlin’s essay (Chapter 20) which comprises a reassessment of the evidence for pederasty in Rome. Her conclusion is that pre-pubescent slave boys were used for sex and that pre-pubescent free boys were also the object of sexual desire at Rome. A key part of her discussion is an examination of how nineteenth- and twentieth-century scholars have previously read the evidence.« (Source: Mark Masterson, Nancy Sorkin Rabinowitz, and James Robson, with assistance from Lloyd Llewellyn-Jones. »Introduction.« Sex in Antiquity: Exploring Gender and Sexuality in the Ancient World.
